JOY AKIN

About

JOY AKIN is the umbrella creative name for the practice — right now expressed through DJing, with room to grow into whatever comes next, whether that’s a clothing line, a visual project, or something else entirely.

It isn’t an invented stage name. “Ayo” — what everyone actually calls her, drawn from Ayooluwa — means “joy” in Yoruba. “Akin,” the first half of her surname Akintayo, means “warrior.” The name is a translation of her own identity into the brand.

Behind the decks, that shows up as seamless genre-blending — African and dance sounds woven into sets that are fresh, curatorial, and deeply grounded. She’s drawn to distinctive choices over expected ones, and often uses her sets to showcase her fashion sense, pulling in pieces from obscure brands.

Booked for brand activations, milestone celebrations, corporate clients, festivals, and opening slots for touring artists — as well as clubs, event spaces, and beach clubs looking for a set that’s polished and intentional from open to close.
